Christmas Lights 2008 - Sunday November 23rd
Thank you to everyone who visited our Christmas Lights Switch on. Let it snow, let it snow - well it did for the morning at-least!
On November 23rd Maidstone turned on its Christmas lights and the glittered with the magic of Christmas.
People who visited Maidstone enjoyed avant garde street theatre and free family entertainment.
Throughout the day visitors and shoppers enjoyed the atmosphere as Maidstone's streets come alive with street theatre and entertainment including our own polar bear, the Lost Arctic Explorers and Musical Ruth - probably the best singing nun act in the country!
There was also live bands and acts on stage from the kmfm town hall stage with the lighting up ceremony at 5pm.

Maidstone's Own Polar Bear.
Did you know that the word 'Arctic' means ‘with Bears’ and 'Antarctic' means ‘without Bears’?...
As a part of the Christmas Lights event people saw a fascinating show all about Polar Bears: where they live, what they eat and other interesting facts. Some even discovered what its like to meet one of these amazing animals up close right here in Maidstone!

Mantas: Straight out
of a B-movie, these fun, colourful and interactive giant Mantises do
more preying than praying. Earth Beware!
Explorers: “He’s been an awfully long
time now sir...” Take a glimpse behind the scenes of a great British
polar expedition. Join the ice-encrusted heroes on their
tragic-comic quest for the South Pole. Witness real men with beards
living together in extreme circumstances. Heroic failure at its
finest.
Spaceman: “Houston, we have a problem…”
These comic astronauts are way off course in their mission, but they
haven’t given up yet! Follow their bizarre exploits as they visit
new worlds and meet strange alien beings. The question is, will they
encounter any intelligent life?
The Top Bananas: The UK’s premier stilt
musicians bring the jungle boogaloo straight to you.
Musical Ruth: Probably the best Musical
Nun Act in the world… Sister Ruth the insanely hilarious singing Nun
and her mobile baby grand piano make a triumphant return to
Maidstone.
Bloco Fogo: Maidstone’s finest, loudest
and only Samba Band, now with funky dancers and a brass section for
added vavavavoom!
Face painting: Using beautiful designs,
temporary tattoos and lots of sparkle to brighten up Maidstone and
put a smile on everyone’s face.
